10-year Sabres veteran to officially abandon Buffalo

With yet another season of not making the playoffs, the Buffalo Sabres are likely losing players upon the expiration of their contracts. One such player is their veteran center Zemgus Girgensons.

The Sabres are one of several NHL to never earn the Stanley Cup. Now, with some key players at the end of their contract, Buffalo is looking at a changed future. Among those set to potentially abandon the team is the Latvian-born player Zemgus Girgensons.





According to Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Girgensons will be an unrestricted free agent this July. If he is able to land a spot with the contract he is looking for, he will have ended his ten-year run with the Sabres.

Though the player is already 30 years old, it is clear he still has fans who would like to continue to see him on the ice for Buffalo. Yet, with his current team, he is less likely to even out his playoff shifts with All-Star games.




However, these fans may still have a chance to see him play for Buffalo again. Despite this report, there is still no guarantee that Girgensons's departure is certain. Though he will be available for other teams, he could still wind up back on the Sabres.




With July still a little while away, it may be some time before more updates on Zemgus Girgenson and his place in the NHL. Hopefully this veteran player can get a contract that works for him better than his last.
