Calgary Flames forward
Milan Lucic has done Calgary a huge favor for this offseason, especially regarding the expansion draft.
The veteran winger has waived his no-movement clause in his contract, making him eligible to be selected by the Seattle Kraken during the expansion draft this summer.
«As much as I want to stay in Calgary I didn't want to handcuff Tree (GM Brad Treliving) in the expansion draft so I agreed that I would waive it for the expansion draft if he didn't want to protect me,» Lucic said Tuesday.
«I really enjoy it here in Calgary and I'd love nothing more than to spend the rest of my career here.»
It's an extremely helpful move for Calgary as they now do not have to select him as one of their seven protected forwards. If he had not done this the team could have risked losing one of
Mikael Backlund,
Dillon Dube, or
Andrew Mangiapane. Now all three will be safe along with
Johnny Gaudreau,
Elias Lindholm,
Sean Monahan, and
Matthew Tkachuk.
Although all seven players may not be a part of the team by the time the expansion draft hits this summer, as the Flames are on the outside looking in to the playoffs, but this gives Flames GM Brad Treliving some breathing room.
