During the 32 Thoughts segment in the second period of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Washington Capitals have discussed the possibility of signing free agent forward Evander Kane.

"Another team that has at least discussed it and considered it is the Washington Capitals," Friedman said. "There's nothing done, no contract or anything like that, but the Capitals are another team, in addition to the Oilers, that have looked into this."

Kane, 30, was placed on unconditional waivers earlier this month and had his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks after the team announced that he violated the AHL's COVID-19 protocol and breached his contract by travelling to Vancouver while he was supposed to be isolating at his home in California.

The NHL is currently investigating Kane for that alleged trip to Vancouver and whenever that case is close, he's expected to sign his next contract, likely with the Edmonton Oilers, but others remain in the mix as well.

In five games this season with the Sharks' AHL affiliate, Kane had eight points (two goals, six assists), two penalty minutes, and was a plus-three.
