Colorado's coach wants league to take a look at Greenway's hit on Kuemper (w/video)
Jared Bedner, coach of the Colorado Avalanche, believes the NHL should be taking a look at a hit on goaltender Darcy Kuemper Monday night. Just under halfway through the second period of the game against Minnesota, the Wild's Jordan Greenway ran into Kuemper while he was standing in his crease. This caused Kurtis MacDermid to challenge, and put a beating on Greenway. Here's the video:
Kuemper tried to stay in the game, but was pulled by concussion spotters after the next whistle. Pavel Francouz would take over and earn the shutout in a 5-0 win. Following the game, Bednar said he felt it should have been more than a two-minute penalty for Greenway, and he'd like to see the league escalate the situation.
"Our D's not riding him in there. So I see him coming across the front of the net and then readjust his route and go right into Kuemper," Bednar said. "Looks like it's intentional to me, and he gets his head. I don't know how it can only be a 2-minute penalty."
"It's not a reviewable play, so I thought the refs handled it fine. I thought maybe it could have been four or a major, depending on how you see it and how fast you think he's going and how intentional you think it is."
"I didn't really have a problem with what they called. Now, I'd like to see the league look at it."
