Provorov frustrated with NHL's COVID protocols
Many players in recent weeks have spoken out in regards to the NHL's current COVID-19 protocols, with the latest being Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Ivan Provorov.
Provorov, 24, was forced to miss the Flyers last three games due to being placed on the protocol list. Like many, he is not happy with the current situation in regards to asymptomatic players not being able to suit up, and voiced his opinion on Wednesday to the media.
"Is it tough? Yeah, you're willing to play through anything, any injury, any illness, and then here you get maybe a regular flu, not even, and then somebody tells you can't come back when you feel fine," Provorov said. "You know? Especially when you're trying to go out there and help your team win and take pride in that. If it's a broken bone or a broken leg or something like that, at least you can say, 'OK, I can't play through that, and I can live with that'. But if it's just a flu that has 99.9 (percent) survival rate, then everyone should play. Because when other teams play against us with the stomach flu for some reason they're not canceling games. So why are they not letting us play, or canceling games now? I don't know. Something's got to change, and hopefully it's going to change soon."
While some may disagree with Provorov, the fact of the matter is many of his peers agree with him. With all these comments coming from players lately, it will be interesting to see if the NHL perhaps changes its stance moving forward and begins to only test players showing symptoms. At this point, that doesn't appear to be the case, but if more continue to speak out they may be forced to make some changes.
