When the NHL does return, there will be some changes, specifically for Canadian teams as they will be playing in front of smaller crowds due to COVID protocols. Those won't be the only changes either, as Elliotte Friedman mentioned Thursday on the Jeff Marek Show that when the league does return he expects there to be some changes to roster rules, including bringing back a taxi squad and potentially a form of cap exemption.
For those who don't remember, the taxi squad was brought in last season to give teams some flexibility in case their roster players were to test positive for COVID. The taxi squad consisted of several players who travelled with the team and were available to play without any roster transaction when needed. Given the situation the NHL finds themselves in once again, it makes sense they could go this route.
