Some sad news to report from the hockey world on Thursday as former Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks head coach Bob McCammon has passed away at the ago of 80 according to Squire Barnes of Global BC.

Prior to coaching, McCammon spent eleven seasons playing for Port Huron in the old International Hockey League and was named defenceman of the year in 1973.

He then spent parts of eight seasons as a head coach at the NHL level with the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks. McCammon also spent four seasons as an assistant coach with Edmonton. The Kenora, Ontario native was a runner-up for the Jack Adams Trophy in 1988-89.

McCammon won the Stanley Cup three times, first in 1987 as the Director of Player Development with the Edmonton Oilers, and then twice with the Detroit Red Wings in 2000 and 2008 as a scout.

Our thoughts are with the McCammon family at this time.
