Over the past week, the NHL has been forced to postpone numerous games due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and announced late Tuesday night that the league would be going into Holiday break mode a bit early .

In large part due to this surge in positive cases, the league will no longer be sending its players to the 2022 Winter Olympics, something they had originally planned to do. As a result, there is a big break in the NHL's schedule in February, and according to St. Louis Blues reporter Andy Strickland they will use that break to reschedule the postponed games.

This move makes sense given how hard it would have been to reschedule all these games at any other time. The hope is that the number of positive cases will soon drop and the league can get back to its regular schedule after the break, but that remains to be seen.
