After passing through waivers and being sent to the San Jose Barracuda last week, Evander Kane is suiting up in his first game with the team Saturday night, and there is plenty of interest. According to reports, there are scouts from six teams on hand to check out Kane. The are the Boston Bruins, The Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars.

The bottom line is, Kane could be a big boost to a team looking to make a deep playoff run or simply to get better, if he can get his shit together. But, that is a huge if. Kane has always had issues off the ice, but it's been a brutal year for him starting right back in January when he filed for bankruptcy. He's admitted to dealing with gambling issues (although he has claimed that is behind him), he was suspended for 21 games for giving the San Jose Sharks a fake vaccine card (he now claims to be fully vaccinated), and the issues with his soon to be ex-wife through their divorce proceedings have been like something out of an episode of the trashiest reality TV show or soap opera you can think of.

It's a surprise that Kane is even playing in the AHL. He claimed in court that it was never his intention to play for the Barracuda, and his agent had worked out a plan with the Sharks that would see him back in the NHL sooner rather than later. Yet, here we are. Passing through waivers likely means he will never play for the Sharks again, so his only real option now is a trade, or a buy out that would allow him to sign elsewhere. It's doubtful the Sharks want to buy him out as he still has three seasons left on his contract after this one at a cap hit of $7 million per year.
