After much deliberation, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has reached a decision regarding the Brendan Lemieux biting incident during Saturday's Kings/Senators game in Ottawa.

The DOPS has issued a 5-game suspension to Lemieux for biting Sens captain Brady Tkachuk in a scrum following a scrap between the two combatants. You can see the video explanation below.

Many had assumed that Lemieux's suspension would be a lengthy one, possibly in excess of 10 games, as biting someone is pretty far outside of what is deemed acceptable in the game of hockey, even during a fight.

Lemieux will miss upcoming games against the Ducks, Flames, Oilers, Canucks and Stars before being deemed eligible to return on December 11th vs the Minnesota Wild.
