Utica Comets establish new AHL record to start 2021-22 season

In the off-season, the Utica Comets underwent an affiliate change. Their old NHL affiliate, the Vancouver Canucks, had relocated their AHL team from Utica to Abbotsford, British Columbia. Facing the possibility of no hockey in Utica, the New Jersey Devils then relocated their AHL team in Binghamton to upstate New York and kept the nickname, Comets, but changed their colours to red, black, and white.

While it was a busy off-season off the ice and a fresh start for the city of Utica, the Comets have had a record start to the 2021-22 campaign.

With Friday night's win against the Charlotte Checkers, the Comets became the first team in American Hockey League history to begin a season with twelve consecutive wins. The previous mark of eleven straight wins was set by the Rochester Americans back in the 1984-85 season.

Utica will look to extend their winning streak Saturday night when they take on their rivals, the Rochester Americans.
