In the NHL, you can get away with saying some things to the officials, but definitely not anything. Whatever Vladimir Tarasenko said to the referee Thursday night following a call on teammate Pavel Buchnevich must have crossed as line as he found himself in the penalty box along with his teammate.
Buchnevich was called for boarding in the first period of the St. Louis Blues game against the San Jose Sharks after a hit on Nicolas Meloche. Tarasenko apparently didn't like the call and said something to the referee that the official clearly wasn't happy with. Tarasenko would be called for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Sharks a five-on-three. While getting into the penalty box, Tarasenko would then turn around and yell "f--k you!" at the official. He's probably lucky he didn't end up getting four minutes. San Jose capitalized on the opportunity with a powerplay goal by Brent Burns. It didn't help much as the Blues went on to win the game 5-3.
