Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a junior hockey team bus in the province of New Brunswick. It happened Sunday morning when the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) were headed to Fredericton to take on the Red Wings in a game Sunday night. The bus was involved in a collision with a car, with the driver of that vehicle being killed in the accident.
The MHL confirmed the bus was carrying players and staff at the time.
"Those on the bus sustained limited injuries and grief counsellors have been brought in. Further counselling and support will be offered, as requested," reads the statement.
"The Maritime Junior Hockey League offers its condolences to the family of the victim of Sunday's accident."
The MHL is a Junior A league comprised of teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI.
