Mitch Marner is watching Toronto's off-season from a distance now, and he isn't pretending otherwise.
The Vegas Knights winger addressed it directly with Michael Traikos this week.
"I obviously see all that stuff. Don't think very much. I'm just thinking about our team and what we've got to do to be the best we can be," Marner said.
That's a clean break from a guy who spent his career-defining years wearing the blue and white.
Marner posted 80 points in 81 games this season with Vegas, adding 5 power play goals and 19 power play assists.
He was even better once the games mattered more. Ten goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 22 playoff games with the Knights.
Vegas finished 39-26-17 for 95 points, third overall in their division, and they're riding a three-game win streak into this season.
Toronto looks nothing like that right now. The Maple Leafs finished 32-36-14 a season ago, 28th overall, on a seven-game losing streak to close things out.

What stood out wasn't the diplomatic answer about Toronto's roster overhaul. It was what came next.
"I know Raddy quite well, I'm very happy for him. He's worked his butt," Marner said.
Short. Direct. No wasted words. That's Marner giving credit where it's due without turning it into a bigger story than it needs to be.

Marner left Toronto for a reason, and every quote like this one gets read as either closure or a subtle jab depending on who's doing the reading.
He didn't take the bait to pile on his old franchise. But he also didn't pretend the off-season noise doesn't reach him in Vegas.
Toronto's rebuild under head coach Jim Hiller is still finding its footing. Whether guys like Marner keep getting asked about it all season is the real question hanging over both locker rooms.
