Spittin' Chiclets just flagged Brandon Montour's payback on Martin Pospisil after the Flames forward ran Kraken goalie Joey Daccord.

It came Wednesday night in Seattle, in a game that needed overtime to settle. The Kraken won 2-1, and the extracurriculars may end up as the story people remember.

Spittin' Chiclets wrote that Montour wasn't about to let Pospisil get away with running into his tendy without a little payback.

That's the full extent of what we know about the exchange itself. Montour finished the night with 2 penalty minutes, an assist and a +1 rating, and he logged 23:51 of ice time.

Pospisil's night went differently. He picked up 6 penalty minutes in 13:18 and left without a point, and the Flames lost in overtime.

This isn't new territory for him. He already dropped the gloves with Easton Cowan earlier this season, and he now has 16 penalty minutes in 16 games, with 6 of them from this one night.

Why running a goalie keeps costing Calgary

Running a goalie is a bad idea, especially in a one-goal game. Pospisil is sitting at -6 for the season, and six minutes in the box in a game decided in overtime hands the other team time and room it doesn't need.

Daccord stopped 25 of 26 shots in the win, so whatever contact there was didn't rattle him. Seattle got its goals from Berkly Catton and Matthew Beniers, who scored the overtime winner.

Montour is no stranger to this side of the game. He has 29 penalty minutes through 14 games, along with 3 goals and 8 assists, so he plays the role of protector as comfortably as he plays the point.

The Kraken sit 9-5-1 and third in the Pacific Division. Having a defenseman who answers for his goalie is the kind of thing a locker room notices, whatever the standings say.

Our earlier look at Pospisil stirring it up against the Kraken shows the tension was already there. The Flames now have to decide whether his agitating is worth the minutes it costs them.

Seattle moves on to face the Rangers on Saturday, November 7. Calgary will be watching to see whether the league has anything to say about Wednesday night.
