Darren Dreger says the San Jose speculation around Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson includes Michael Misa, "plus, maybe plus."
That matters because Misa went second overall in 2025. A swap built around him would put a top-two pick in Detroit's hands.
Edvinsson is listed on injured reserve with a contract dispute, out indefinitely, and he hasn't played a game this season. The Red Wings have been dealing with that situation for a while, and the trade chatter has only grown louder.
Dreger spoke on OverDrive Tuesday, and NHL Rumour Report passed along his comments, noting that the speculation about Misa has been out there.

It's still unclear whether the Sharks are willing to put Misa in a package. Our earlier look at Darren Dreger's Misa for Edvinsson report said San Jose would say no to a straight swap, and that Detroit would want more anyway.
Now the "plus" has become part of the conversation. Whether it's picks, prospects or another roster piece, Detroit clearly isn't looking at Misa alone.
Edvinsson was drafted sixth overall in 2021 by the Red Wings. He has 175 games and 60 points over his NHL career, and he's only 23.
Why Misa makes the price complicated
Misa is 19, and he has 3 goals and 8 points in 16 games with the Sharks this season. He's a minus-5, on a team that sits 24th in the NHL with a goal differential of minus-12.
That's a lot of pressure on a young forward, and it's also why San Jose may not love the idea of paying a premium for a defenseman who hasn't played this year. Misa is on an entry-level deal worth under $1 million that runs through 2027-28.
San Jose is 7-8-1 and has lost two straight, with a game at Los Angeles tonight. Pierre LeBrun's take on what the Sharks think of Edvinsson was that they see a great fit, and that Detroit knows what San Jose has up front.
Detroit isn't in a desperate spot. The Red Wings are 7-6-3, eighth in the Atlantic, and they fell 4-2 in Tampa last night.
But the blue line without Edvinsson is a real question, and a young top-two pick is the kind of return that would let Shawn Horcoff's group justify moving him. A package worth less than that probably isn't worth the headache.
My view: the Sharks shouldn't give up Misa and more for a player who hasn't suited up this season. If Detroit's asking price really starts there, this one stays stuck.
The Red Wings host Vegas on Thursday, and Edvinsson's status will still be hanging over the room when they do.
Should the Sharks include Michael Misa in a trade for Simon Edvinsson?
