Dylan Larkin's future with Todd McLellan's Detroit Red Wings has taken another turn after a revealing prediction from NHL insider Chris Johnston.
The Athletic insider believes Larkin could eventually land with a team that isn't currently on his approved list of 10 destinations.
That's a surprising development considering the Detroit captain has significant control over his future through his no-trade protection.
Johnston's prediction suggests the trade market could expand beyond the clubs already linked to Larkin, opening the door to an unexpected destination.
The current list reportedly includes the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche.

Yet the Red Wings still haven't completed a deal, and the biggest obstacle appears to be the return Detroit expects.
Red Wings want prominent NHL player in exchange for Dylan Larkin
Detroit reportedly wants established NHL players capable of contributing immediately, rather than a package centered on future draft picks and prospects.
That creates complications with contenders reluctant to sacrifice important roster pieces while pursuing a center of Larkin's caliber.
Johnston has also suggested Larkin could be willing to expand his list of acceptable destinations if the right opportunity emerges.
The Montreal Canadiens are particularly interesting because their reported interest hasn't translated into a place on Larkin's approved list.
Montreal could become a serious factor if Larkin opens the door, especially with the Canadiens reportedly prepared to discuss an offer.
Meanwhile, insider David Pagnotta has suggested negotiations have gained traction, raising the possibility of a move before October ends.
For Detroit general manager Shawn Horcoff, the challenge remains finding a return that strengthens the Red Wings without surrendering leverage.
Larkin still controls an important part of this process. And Johnston's prediction raises an intriguing possibility: the team that ultimately acquires Detroit's captain might not be among the expected contenders.
Should Dylan Larkin expand his trade list to join the Montreal Canadiens?
