Quinn Hughes returned to Vancouver on Sunday, and John Hynes watched his star defenseman face a hostile reception from his former home crowd.
The former Canucks captain stepped onto the Rogers Arena ice wearing a Minnesota Wild jersey, and Vancouver fans wasted little time letting him hear their displeasure.
It was an emotional homecoming for a player who once represented the face of the franchise. The boos made it clear that some fans still haven't accepted his departure.
Sportsnet captured Hughes taking the ice during warmups, with the defenseman skating alongside his Minnesota teammates in a building where he spent much of his NHL career.
Hughes appeared focused on his routine, keeping his head down as he moved along the boards. The moment carried plenty of tension after months of anticipation.

Quinn Hughes rained in boos from Canucks fans
The reaction wasn't entirely unexpected. Hughes acknowledged before the game that he could hear boos from supporters who once celebrated his every move.
He also made it clear that a negative reception wouldn't change his appreciation for Vancouver or the experiences he had with the organization.
Hughes was traded to Minnesota on December 12, 2025, ending a remarkable chapter with the Canucks and leaving plenty of hard feelings among the fan base.
His departure also changed Vancouver's direction. The Canucks received Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, Zeev Buium and a first-round draft pick in the blockbuster deal.
For Manny Malhotra's Canucks, the evening carried another layer of emotion. Their former captain was now standing across the ice as an opponent rather than leading their blue line.
Hughes remains one of the most accomplished defensemen in franchise history, having won the Norris Trophy during his time in Vancouver.
But Sunday showed that individual accomplishments don't erase the disappointment of losing a franchise player. Some Canucks supporters clearly haven't moved past that separation.
And with Hughes now wearing Minnesota colors, every return to Rogers Arena could carry that same uncomfortable reminder of what Vancouver lost.
Did Canucks fans have every right to boo Quinn Hughes during his return to Vancouver?
