Owen Power got sent to the box for a high stick he never threw, and the Sabres defenseman was furious once he saw the replay.

The stick actually belonged to Trevor Zegras, who caught his own Flyers teammate, Matvei Michkov, up high.

The officials called it on Power anyway, and the call wasn't reversed.

When the replay flashed on the video board, his reaction said it all. He wasn't happy, and he had every reason not to be.

Getting penalized for a teammate's stick is like getting a speeding ticket because the car in the next lane was flying.

To be fair, the game moves fast. Officials will make good calls and bad ones, and over a full season, they tend to even out.

That doesn't make this one right. When the video board shows the entire building the mistake, there should be a way to fix it.

Lindy Ruff's Sabres can't afford gifts against the Flyers

The Sabres defenseman has been reliable this season, with eight points and two game-winning goals.

He carries an $8,350,000 cap hit and was completely innocent on this play.

On a team that has allowed 34 goals, that kind of steadiness matters.

Buffalo came in at 4-3-2, fresh off a 4-3 overtime loss in Montreal on Saturday.

Philadelphia arrived riding its first two wins of the season.

Daniel Briere's group has climbed out of the league's basement, at least for now.

Michkov, the one who actually took the stick, has four goals over his last five games.

Zegras has been heating up too, with six points over that same stretch, though his stick work clearly needs a tune-up.

Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson have carried plenty of the load in Buffalo, with Thompson up to five goals.

Will it even out by April? Probably, but that won't make Power feel any better tonight, and Lindy Ruff won't forget it if it costs Buffalo a point.
