The New Jersey Devils appear to have caught a break in an injury related to Jack Hughes, as the 20-year-old will not require surgery on his dislocated shoulder.

The injury occurred Tuesday night in a game against the Seattle Kraken, and knocked Hughes out for the remainder of the game. There was a ton of reason for fear as surgery would have kept him out long term. However, it now sounds as though he will be reevaluated in a week's time and could be good to go shortly after.

Hughes, who went first overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, was off to a great start this season with two goals and an assist through two games played. He was able to flash his potential in 2020-21 with 11 goals and 31 points in 56 games. While he didn't get off to as good of a start as some other first overall picks early in their careers, his skill level is undeniable and he has a real chance at becoming a star player.
