A three-team pitch would land Tom Wilson in Edmonton, with the Oilers moving Tristan Jarry to the Rangers to help make the money work.
NHL Trade Talk floated the hypothetical, noting there's no indication any of it is actually being discussed.
Jarry would go to New York for a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Washington would get Isaac Howard, Josh Samanski and a 2028 first-round pick for Wilson.
Moving Jarry and Howard would offset all but $192,500 of Wilson's $6,540,000 cap hit.
The Rangers half is the weakest link. Why trade for a goalie sitting at .837 when the kid already in your crease is doing far better?
Three-team trades are like planning a wedding with three families. Everybody has to say yes on the same day.
Edmonton Oilers trade proposal pairs Tom Wilson with Connor McDavid
On 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman compared the Rangers GM to Santa Claus, making a list and checking it twice as he evaluates goalies.
Friedman also said goaltending scout Scott Clemmensen attended the Sabres-Canadiens game, which NHL Trade Talk suggested could mean a look at Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
Dylan Garand has been excellent in the meantime, sitting at .951 with a shutout.
New York is 6-2-0 and has allowed just 14 goals.
Igor Shesterkin is out until at least Sept. 15, and Joonas Korpisalo until at least Nov. 9.
Wilson has 5 points for a Washington team sitting at 4-3-0 after Wednesday's win over Montreal.
He's signed through 2031 with modified no-trade protection, according to NHL Trade Talk.
Edmonton is 5-0-1 and hosts Utah tonight, with Connor McDavid already at 17 points.
Devon Levi has won all four of his decisions, which is why Jarry looks expendable there.
Howard has 2 assists on a $972,500 deal, and his name keeps surfacing in Oilers trade ideas.
Would Washington really move a player it locked up long-term while it's still winning?
Fun on paper. The Rangers may already have their answer in the crease, and that's the domino this whole idea needs to fall first.
Should the Oilers go after Tom Wilson?
