Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin met with the media on Wednesday afternoon to discuss a number of topics. Among the things he talked about today was the status of captain Shea Weber and defenceman Joel Edmundson.

First up, Shea Weber. Bergevin said that Weber has not undergone any surgeries for the multiple injuries he is dealing with. He added that Weber been rehabbing his injuries and won't be returning to training anytime soon.

Bergevin went on to say that Weber won't be back this year, as was expected and announced this summer, and when asked if 36-year-old would resume his career one day, he said that it's a long shot.

The Canadiens general manager also stated that he had a plan for his captain and will share details if it materializes. TSN's John Lu suspects that it could be a coaching role or a position in the hockey operations department.

Next up is defenceman Joel Edmundson, who has been out with an undisclosed injury since the beginning of training camp, and hasn't featured in any practice or game.

Edmundson is doing better physically according to Dominique Ducharme, but Marc Bergevin said that the 28-year-old will be away from the team for an indeifinte period to be with his family. Edmundson's father was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, and Bergevin added that his father isn't doing well in his battle with the disease.

Our thoughts are with Joel and his family at this time.
