Brad Marchand left the ice with help, giving Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers a major injury scare on Tuesday night.

The Panthers winger went down near the net during the second period against the Los Angeles Kings and did not get back to the bench under his own power.

Marchand remained down beside the crease as play stopped. Teammates and medical staff quickly gathered around him before helping him toward the tunnel.

There was no postgame update on Marchand's condition, leaving Florida without an immediate answer on the severity of the injury.

That uncertainty is the biggest concern. Marchand's reaction and inability to leave the ice without assistance made this far more alarming than a routine trip down the tunnel.

On the replay, Marchand drops hard beside the net, stays on the ice and needs support from both sides as he slowly makes his way off.

Florida now waits on Brad Marchand

The timing makes the situation even tougher for Maurice. Florida is heading home after a 2-0-2 road trip, and the focus now shifts from the standings to Marchand's status.

There's no reason to speculate on a diagnosis before the Panthers provide more information. But the scene itself was concerning, especially with Marchand unable to skate away on his own.

Any absence would immediately force Maurice to adjust his forward rotation. Marchand brings experience, edge and net-front pressure that can't simply be replaced with one lineup change.

The Panthers will also have to consider how his potential absence affects their top-six deployment and special-teams options once they return home.

For now, the absence of an update leaves Florida in a holding pattern. The next word from the club will carry far more weight than anything that happened on the scoreboard Tuesday.

Marchand has built his career around playing through traffic and making life uncomfortable around the crease. Seeing him need help after this sequence was a jarring sight.

Florida can only hope the scene looked worse than the final diagnosis. Until the Panthers say otherwise, Marchand's health becomes the story hanging over the team's return home.
