Dmytro Timashov will continue his career at home after having NHL contract terminated
Six years after being drafted to the NHL, Dmytro Timashov is headed home. The 25-year old, who was once the QMJHL's Rookie of the Year after scoring 90 points, has signed a two-year deal with Brynäs of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
Timashov was born in Ukraine but raised in Sweden by his mother. He was placed on unconditional waivers this week by the New York Islanders in order to have his contract terminated.
While he was in the NHL for six years, Timashov managed just 45 games with Toronto, Detroit, and the New York Islanders. He was selected by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. He recorded four goals and five assists during his NHL stint.
According to AftonBladet, Timashov's contract was financed through through a fundraiser by Brynäs fans during the offseason that raised one million Swedish Kroner, or the equivalent of just under $145,000 USD.
