An unidentified KHL official was taken off on a stretcher during Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg's game against Amur Khabarovsk.
The incident happened during the first period Sunday with the game still scoreless, bringing play to an immediate halt as attention shifted away from the two teams.
Medical personnel came onto the ice and eventually removed the official on a stretcher, creating an unsettling scene early in the KHL regular-season matchup.
Video of the sequence was shared Sunday by Hockey News Hub's Jeremy Garrett, who noted how unusual it was to see an official leave a professional hockey game in that manner.
The footage showed players standing back while medical staff attended to the official on the ice. There was little movement around the play as everyone waited for the situation to be handled.

No immediate public update on the official's condition had been released by the KHL, Avtomobilist or Amur following the incident.
KHL waits for update after rare on-ice scene
That lack of information makes the next update the biggest part of the story. Anything about the nature or severity of the issue would be speculation until the league or one of the clubs provides more detail.
Officials are constantly positioned around fast-moving skaters and pucks, putting them in the middle of traffic without the same ability to anticipate every collision or sudden change of direction.
Seeing one leave the ice on a stretcher remains an uncommon sight at the professional level, which explains the immediate concern from players, staff and fans watching the game.
The NHL dealt with a similar situation in November 2024 when referee Mitch Dunning collided with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson during a game in Philadelphia.
Dunning was transported to hospital as a precaution after that collision, with the league later reporting that his neurological signs were normal.
Sunday's KHL incident carries its own uncertainty. Until more information is released, the focus remains on the official's condition and whether he avoided a serious injury.
The game between Avtomobilist and Amur suddenly became secondary after a scene few people inside a hockey arena expect to witness.
Should the KHL provide an immediate public update on the official's condition?
