Tyson Jost is back on waivers, leaving Andrew Brunette and the Nashville Predators with another decision looming up front.
The former first-round pick was placed on waivers Sunday as Nashville continues shaping its roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Jost carries notable draft pedigree. Colorado selected the center 10th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, putting him in a very different position from the typical depth forward fighting through September cuts.
The move comes after Jost returned to Nashville on a professional tryout earlier this month. He entered camp without a contract, putting every shift under a microscope as he battled for another NHL opportunity.
That history makes Sunday's decision sting. Jost was also claimed by Nashville off waivers from Carolina in October 2025, only to reach unrestricted free agency after the season.
His last NHL contract carried a $775,000 cap hit. Now, at 28, the former top prospect is once again waiting to see whether another organization views him as useful depth.

The waiver wire gives every other NHL club an opportunity to claim Jost. If he goes unclaimed, Nashville will have more flexibility in determining what comes next for the veteran center.
For Brunette, the move also says something about the competition inside the Predators' forward group. Jost arrived without a guaranteed roster spot, and Nashville has now exposed him to the rest of the league.
The bigger story is how far his NHL path has shifted since draft night. Being selected 10th overall came with expectations of becoming a meaningful long-term piece in Colorado's forward group.
Instead, Jost's career has taken him through Colorado, Minnesota, Buffalo, Carolina and Nashville. His role has increasingly moved toward the bottom six rather than the offensive assignment once associated with his draft position.
There's still value in experience, versatility and being able to handle depth minutes. But waiver placement this late in September puts Jost's immediate future squarely in question.
Sunday's move doesn't guarantee the end of his time with the Predators. It does make one thing clear: a former 10th overall pick is fighting for NHL footing again.
