Gleb Pugachyov has confirmed a concussion, giving Martin St-Louis and the Montreal Canadiens a new concern before the season gains speed.
The 18-year-old Canadiens prospect broke his silence after an incident during his first regular-season game of the year in Russian junior hockey.
Pugachyov said he was driving toward the net when the sequence went wrong. A penalty was called on the play, although he stopped short of describing the contact as dirty.
“I got hurt, now I'm recovering,” Pugachyov said while discussing the sequence and the injury that followed.
That confirmation ends several days of uncertainty surrounding his status. He is now recovering while being monitored by his club's medical staff.

The timing makes the setback especially frustrating. Pugachyov had appeared in only 1 regular-season game before being forced out of the lineup.
Pugachyov faces another early-season hurdle
His start had already drawn attention before the injury. Some observers questioned his conditioning and engagement after watching his early work overseas.
Pugachyov also arrived this season with a much different frame. He reportedly went from 187 pounds to 220 pounds over the past year.
At 6-foot-3, that 33-pound increase naturally created questions about how his added size would affect his skating, pace and overall deployment.
Now those discussions take a back seat to his recovery. A concussion brings uncertainty, and there is no reason for Montreal to rush one of its young prospects back into game action.
Pugachyov was a first-round selection by the Canadiens in the most recent NHL Draft, putting additional attention on every step of his development.
For Montreal, the next meaningful development won't be another scouting report or debate about his conditioning. It will be seeing Pugachyov cleared to return and finding out how quickly he can regain his rhythm.
His season has barely started, but the Canadiens already have another young player whose progress will require close attention.
