Connor Bedard has a new role in Chicago, with Jeff Blashill now coaching a Blackhawks team led by its young franchise centerpiece.
The Blackhawks announced Tuesday morning that Bedard has been named the 37th captain in franchise history, putting the letter on his chest before the new season begins.
It's a significant shift for a Chicago locker room that has spent the past several years moving through a rebuild and assembling a younger core around Bedard.
The decision also removes any doubt about who will carry the biggest leadership responsibility inside that room. Bedard isn't simply Chicago's offensive centerpiece anymore. The organization has formally put him at the front of the group.
