William Nylander just received a massive vote of confidence, and Jim Hiller could be coaching a very different Maple Leafs team if it proves right.

Pierre McGuire delivered one of the strongest preseason predictions surrounding Toronto, putting Nylander directly in the spotlight heading toward the new season.

McGuire didn't simply suggest Nylander would improve. He identified him as the Toronto player he expects to make the biggest jump back.

“Of all the players Toronto has, I think he's going to have the biggest bounce back. I really do. I think he's gonna have a fantastic year.”

That is a serious statement because Toronto's season can look completely different if Nylander becomes one of its driving offensive forces again.

The clip shows McGuire speaking without hesitation, leaning into the prediction rather than softening it or leaving himself an easy way out.

Nylander could change Toronto's entire ceiling

That's where this becomes bigger than a summer prediction. A major Nylander rebound would give Hiller another high-end weapon capable of pushing the pace, attacking defenders off the rush and taking over stretches of games.

Toronto doesn't need Nylander to simply be productive. The Maple Leafs need him forcing opposing teams to adjust matchups and worry about where his next controlled entry is coming from.

When Nylander is attacking with confidence, the ice opens. Defenders back off, passing lanes become available and Toronto's top six becomes much harder to contain over a full night.

And this is why McGuire's statement carries weight. He has spent decades around the NHL, and he didn't choose cautious language when discussing what he expects from Nylander.

A fantastic season from Nylander could reshape Hiller's options immediately. It would give Toronto more flexibility with its lines, create tougher matchup decisions and reduce the pressure on one unit to carry the offense.

The bigger issue for opponents would be predictability. If Nylander becomes a constant threat again, Toronto gains another player who can create something when a structured possession breaks down.

That can swing close games, change a road trip and turn a rough stretch into momentum before it grows inside the locker room.

McGuire has now put the expectation out there. If Nylander delivers the rebound he is predicting, this won't just be a strong individual season. It could change what the Maple Leafs believe they can accomplish.
