William Nylander just received a massive vote of confidence, and Jim Hiller could be coaching a very different Maple Leafs team if it proves right.
Pierre McGuire delivered one of the strongest preseason predictions surrounding Toronto, putting Nylander directly in the spotlight heading toward the new season.
McGuire didn't simply suggest Nylander would improve. He identified him as the Toronto player he expects to make the biggest jump back.
“Of all the players Toronto has, I think he's going to have the biggest bounce back. I really do. I think he's gonna have a fantastic year.”
That is a serious statement because Toronto's season can look completely different if Nylander becomes one of its driving offensive forces again.

A fantastic season from Nylander could reshape Hiller's options immediately. It would give Toronto more flexibility with its lines, create tougher matchup decisions and reduce the pressure on one unit to carry the offense.
The bigger issue for opponents would be predictability. If Nylander becomes a constant threat again, Toronto gains another player who can create something when a structured possession breaks down.
