David Pastrnak is at the center of an all-in Oilers trade pitch that would hand Mike Babcock another elite winger.
The proposed deal would give Edmonton another high-end finisher for a top six already built around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
But the price attached to Pastrnak is massive. Edmonton wouldn't be adding him without stripping several valuable pieces from its roster and prospect pool.
The proposal has the Oilers receiving David Pastrnak.
Boston would receive Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Isaac Howard, Kasperi Kapanen, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and a conditional 2030 second-round pick.
That conditional second-rounder becomes a first-round pick if Edmonton wins the Stanley Cup during Pastrnak's first two seasons with the Oilers.
It's the type of package that makes Edmonton's intentions unmistakable. The Oilers would be trading established help, young talent and premium draft capital for one major piece.
Edmonton would be betting everything on Pastrnak
Pastrnak carries an $11,250,000 cap hit, which immediately explains why Nugent-Hopkins and Kapanen are included in the framework.
The hockey fit is easy to understand. Pastrnak could give McDavid an elite right-shot scoring option while Draisaitl continues driving another dangerous line.
The real debate is what Edmonton would surrender. Savoie and Howard represent two young pieces who could become important parts of the Oilers' next wave.
Then come the draft picks. Two guaranteed first-round selections, plus the chance of another first, would leave Edmonton with far less flexibility in future deals.
Boston would also have to be willing to move its franchise winger. Pastrnak isn't simply a rental being pushed toward free agency, so the Bruins would hold enormous leverage in any conversation.
For Edmonton, the proposal is about maximizing the McDavid-Draisaitl window rather than protecting tomorrow. Pastrnak would raise the ceiling immediately, but the Oilers would be paying for that upside for years.
That's what makes this trade pitch so divisive. Edmonton gets the biggest name in the deal, while Boston gets enough established talent, youth and draft capital to completely reshape its direction.
