Jack Hughes is single again, at least according to Page Six, and the New Jersey Devils center's personal life is suddenly the story instead of his game.
Page Six reported that Hughes, 25, and Canadian pop star Tate McRae, 23, have split after several months of dating.
Neither side has publicly confirmed the breakup, and neither one ever officially confirmed the relationship in the first place, despite being spotted together frequently over the past year.
The two were first linked back in November 2025, when they were seen grabbing dinner together in New York City.
McRae showed up to several of Hughes's games throughout the 2025-26 season, and sources told Entertainment Tonight by February that the two were "casually dating."
Signs of a cooldown had been building for most of the summer. In June, gossip site Deuxmoi published a tip claiming Hughes was "acting single" while out in New York.
Conflicting reports emerge on why the relationship ended
At the TIME100 Sports Gala in July, Hughes sidestepped questions about his love life entirely, saying he was just enjoying his offseason playing golf and spending time with family and friends.
McRae did something similar just days before the breakup story broke, telling Us Weekly she tries to keep her relationships "as sacred and private as possible" to protect the people close to her.
The actual cause of the split depends on who's telling the story. One account has Hughes ending things after spotting some "red flags," while another has McRae as the one who pulled away.
Pop Crave shared the Page Six report Friday, and it spread fast across both hockey and pop culture circles almost immediately.

Neither camp has offered a real explanation publicly, and given how private both have kept this relationship from the start, a detailed statement from either side seems unlikely anytime soon.
For Hughes, this is really just a footnote heading into a season where the Devils will be counting on him to be a top-line difference maker regardless of what's happening off the ice.
