This could officially be the end of the road for Evander Kane in the NHL

Evander Kane's NHL career could be nearing a stunning turn, with Ak Bars Kazan reportedly eyeing the veteran winger this summer.

According to Sport-Express reporter Mikhail Zislis, the KHL club has shown real interest in signing the 35-year-old.

Kane remains an unrestricted free agent right now, and nobody around the league has stepped up with an offer.

That silence says a lot on its own.

Over his NHL career, Kane has played 1,001 games and racked up 648 points, spending last season with the Vancouver Canucks.

He finished that year with 31 points in 71 games, a modest number for a guy who used to be a nightly threat.

For most of his run, Kane was one of the league's most recognizable power forwards. Physical. Productive. Impossible to ignore.

The NHL market for Kane has gone ice cold this summer

Now, after crossing the 1,000-game mark in North America, his most serious opportunity might be sitting in Russia instead.

That's a wild shift for a guy who once carried a $7 million cap hit and anchored top-six roles in Winnipeg, Buffalo, San Jose and Edmonton.

Think about that for a second. A player who once commanded elite money is now fielding interest from a league most NHL stars only consider once their prime is done.

Nothing is signed. And KHL interest doesn't automatically mean Kane's NHL story is finished.

But UFA markets don't stay open forever, and the longer this drags into the summer, the more realistic an overseas jump becomes.

Kane still has size, physicality and a track record most bottom-six wingers can't match. Whether an NHL team values that enough to call is another question entirely.

For now, the phone from Kazan appears to be ringing louder than anything coming out of North America.
