Jason Robertson is still in limbo, and Glen Gulutzan now has a massive roster question hanging over Dallas.
What looked like a tense contract standoff is now starting to look like a real trade fight.
Robertson remains a restricted free agent, and the Stars are making it clear they won't move him for anything light.
According to Greg Wyshynski, relaying word from an executive who checked on Robertson, Dallas is asking for a "Rantanen package."
That changes the conversation fast.
That kind of return points to a massive haul, not a simple futures deal.
It tells the rest of the league the Stars still view Robertson as a franchise-level winger, even with negotiations stuck.
And that's the part contenders won't love. Plenty of teams might want Robertson, but far fewer can pay a premium built around prime assets, picks, and an NHL-ready young piece.
Dallas has every reason to stand firm. Robertson just put up 45 goals and 96 points in 82 games, numbers that keep him in the top tier of scoring wingers.
Dallas is treating this like a franchise move
This isn't a player coming off a down year with fading value. Robertson already owns a 109-point season, and his production hasn't slipped enough to justify a discounted return.
That's why the ask matters so much. If another club wants Dallas to even think about moving Robertson, the offer has to hurt. That's the message coming out of this situation right now.
There's also pressure on the Stars' front office. Jim Nill has to balance cap structure, contract leverage, and the risk of moving one of the club's best finishers out of the top six.
For Robertson, this only drives the spotlight higher. Once a team starts attaching blockbuster language to your name, every delay feels louder and every rumor carries more weight.
From Dallas' side, the stance is simple. They're not shopping a scorer of this level unless someone pays like they're acquiring one of the biggest wingers on the board.
So yes, Robertson may be available. But the Stars aren't acting desperate. They're acting like the price of doing business starts at "Rantanen package" and climbs from there.
