Asked Thursday night what he saw before challenging the disallowed Barbashev goal, the Vegas coach laid it out in detail.
"I saw a loose puck in front of Freddy, our player stabbed it, didn't move the goalie, and it goes through and went to the other side," Tortorella said.
Then came the kicker. "I'd challenge it 10 out of 10 times."
That's not a coach managing a controversy. That's a coach picking a fight with the ruling itself.
Eric Francis posted the full quote, and the wording is doing a lot of work, especially that line about never moving the goalie.

Read his version closely, because it's a direct rebuttal of the on-ice ruling. The officials treated the puck as covered by Frederik Andersen. Tortorella is saying it was loose the whole way.
If the goalie never got moved and the puck went clean through, there's no interference and no covered puck. There's just a goal that got wiped out.
The problem is what the gamble cost. The failed challenge put Carolina on the power play, the Hurricanes converted, and Vegas eventually lost in overtime with the series now tied 1-1.
Frank Seravalli had already noted the league upheld 96 percent of on-ice no-goal calls last season. Torts heard those odds and shrugged.
Honestly? I respect it. A coach who hedges in the Stanley Cup Final is a coach managing his press conference instead of his team.
But conviction and math aren't friends here. Challenging a no-goal with those numbers is like arguing with the umpire after the game ended. Satisfying, and useless.
His players will love the message, though. A bench boss publicly carrying the blame, daring the league to defend its call, takes heat off everyone in that locker room.
Game 3 lands Saturday in Vegas. The officials working that game know exactly what Tortorella thinks of them.
Whether that helps the Golden Knights or paints a target on them is the part nobody can predict.
