Jack Eichel expected to be stripped of captaincy by Sabres

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Jack Eichel is expected to fail his upcoming physical, and he also expects the Buffalo Sabres to strip the 24-year-old of his captaincy.

This entire situation has turned very ugly, and it appears that Eichel may end up in a hold out situation that could play out for quite some time. It is unfortunate, but he is clearly fed up with the Sabres organization, who are refusing to let him get the procedure he wants done on his neck injury that forced him to miss most of the 2020-21 season.

Eichel has been the captain of the Sabres for the previous four seasons, after taking over the role formerly held by Brian Gionta. Given that training camp is set to begin on Wednesday, it is likely that the Sabres will go without a captain for the 2021-22 season, as they did in 2017-18.
