According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, CSKA Moscow of the KHL has publicly stated that Kaprizov will not be playing for them next season. This is huge news as Kaprizov's agent was using them as leverage, saying if the 24-year-old didn't get the contract offer he wanted from the Wild he would return home to play for CSKA. Russo also noted that while an extension isn't imminent, there have been plenty of positive talks between the two parties in recent days.
The Wild organization and its fans had been patiently waiting for Kaprizov's arrival for a number of seasons, and were finally treated to it last season. He certainly lived up to all the hype he had received, putting up a team leading 27 goals and 51 points in just 55 games. As mentioned above, he was awarded the Calder Trophy for his great season and promises to only get better. He makes the NHL better to watch, so hopefully for all involved a contract can be worked out in the near future.
