Former NHLer Jimmy Hayes passes away
Some tragic news from the hockey community today, as it has been confirmed that former NHLer Jimmy Hayes has passed away at just 31 years of age.
Hayes, who was drafted in the second-round (60 overall) by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008, played three seasons with Boston College before making his NHL debut in 2011-12. His best season as an NHLer came in 2014-15 where he scored 19 goals and 35 points in 72 games with the Florida Panthers. He was last in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18 and played one additional season in the AHL before retiring. He played 334 career NHL games, scoring 54 goals and 109 points.
Since retirement, Hayes had been a co-host of the Missin' Curfew podcast along with two other former NHLers in Scottie Upshall and Shane O'Brien. He is also the brother of current Philadelphia Flyers forward Kevin Hayes. At this time there are no reports as to what caused this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hayes family during this extremely difficult time.
