With the Swedish Hockey League set to begin its regular season on September 11th, one of its teams has had to suspend operations, including training, after major flooding at its arena. Heavy rain in the city of Gavle has led to flooding which has caused significant water damage and melted ice at the home base of Brynas IF.

"It was a meter of water," Brynas manager Johan Alcén told Sportbladet.

"We are now investigating the possibilities of restoring the arena - insurance opportunities, and so on. It is without electricity over there, there is water everywhere," said Magnus Kangas, chairman of the club.

The team shared several photos on Twitter of crews attempting to clean up and repair the damage. It says the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
