Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos hit big twice this summer, first by winning hockey's greatest prize - The Stanley Cup - and now he has apparently made a massive profit by selling his Davis Islands home in Tampa for a whopping $16M.

The 8,516 square-foot home was nothing more than a vacant plot of land when Stamkos and his wife, Sandra, bought it back in 2017. The land cost Mr. and Mrs. Stamkos just $3.85M at the time. Following the purchase, the Stamkoses designed a 6-bedroom, 7.5 bathroom home with a bay view, which they moved into back in 2018.

The interesting thing about this story is that the home was never listed. Apparently, Allan Mezrah, of Toni Everett Company in Tampa, received a call about the home in Hillsborough County from a client from Boston, who was looking to relocate.

Not thinking there was any chance of a sale being made, Mezrah reached out to Stamkos to see if he and his family would entertain the idea of selling their new home. Surprisingly, Stamkos was receptive to the idea and provided Mezrah with a "move-out number" to present to his Boston-based client, John Shields and his wife Kathy. Without hesitation, the terms of the deal were accepted, according to Mezrah.

"He gave me a number and the guy met it," Mezrah said. "There's a lot of money and big time people moving to Florida and when they come to Tampa, they seem to want to be in Davis Islands."

There was no mention of what Steven and Sandra paid to build the house on the $3.85M plot of land, but you'd have to assume that if the buyer told Stamkos to name his price, he shot for the moon and made a tidy profit.

Possibly the most interesting detail about the story is that the deal was apparently struck back in March of this year. Stamkos reportedly told the agent and the buyer that the Stamkos family would do the deal contingent on being able to complete the Lightning's Stanley Cup Playoff run and any potential celebrations that may follow.

How's that for believing in your team? Stamkos had a buyer for his home, back in March, but he didn't want his Cup celebrations interrupted by a move. Just wild.

What does this mean for the Bolts captain in Tampa? Well, nothing really. Stamkos and his family are reportedly going to be moving into another home in the area.

"I can tell you he is not leaving the island," said Mezrah, to put an end to any rumours that the captain may be on his way out of town.

Stamkos is still under contract with the Lightning through the 2023-24 season.
