The Islanders announced on Saturday the signing of second-round draft pick Aatu Raty to a three-year, entry-level contract. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed as of right now.

The Islanders may be holding off on announcing most of their free agent contracts, but they aren't delaying signing their top prospects to deals, especially one as talented as Raty.

The 18-year-old was viewed as the top prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft on one point, but his draft stock declined mightily throughout the season. This allowed the Islanders to select him at 52nd overall in the second round. Raty spent most of last season playing with Karpat of the SM-liiga, recording 3 goals and 3 assists in 35 games.

Raty is under contract with Karpat for next season, but the Isles could give him a chance at cracking the NHL roster if he makes some improvements over the offseason. It seems likely that he will remain in Finland to take on a bigger role with Karpat to aid in his development for the NHL.
