Former Cup winner Viktor Stalberg announces his retirement from pro hockey

Viktor Stalberg, who played 488 regular season games in the NHL as well as another 60 playoffs games, has announced his retirement from professional hockey. The 35-year-old, who has spent the last few seasons playing in Europe, said hockey has been his life since he was six years old and it's time to see what else is out there. Here's his announcement in full:

Besides Toronto and Chicago, Stalberg also played for Nashville, Carolina, the New York Rangers and Ottawa throughout his NHL career. He won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Blackhawks in 2013, playing in 47 regular season games and 19 playoffs games. Stalberg, who played on the wing, was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round, 161st overall, in 2006. After leaving the NHL in 2017, he played in the Swiss National League, as well as Russia's KHL. He played one game with Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League last season.
