On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they've re-signed restricted free agent forward Tyler Benson to a one-year, two-way contract worth $750,000 at the NHL level. Despite being an RFA, Benson was not eligible for salary arbitration.

Benson, 23, took a big step in his development during the 2020-21 season. To start the season, the Oilers loaned him to the GCK Lions in Switzerland's second division where he had 19 points (2 G, 17 A), 20 penalty minutes, and was a +4 in 15 games.

Upon his return to North America, Benson was assigned to the Oilers AHL affiliate in Bakersfield, California, where he spent the entire season. In 36 games with Bakersfield, the Edmonton, Alberta native had 36 points (10 G, 26 A), 30 penalty minutes, and was a +14.

Benson will look to earn a permanent spot on Edmonton's roster going into the 2021-22 season despite the off-season additions of Zach Hyman and Warren Foegele.
