Reigning Calder Trophy winner Kirill Kaprizov isn't messing around when it comes to his negotiations with the Minnesota Wild on a new contract. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Kaprizov has a tentative one-year deal in place with CSKA Moscow that would pay him "8 figures", making him one of the highest paid players, if not the highest paid player, in the league

Many likely think this is a negotiating tactic, and they are absolutely right. However, Kaprizov seems more than willing to return home to Russia if that's what it takes to get the Wild to agree to his terms, and GM Bill Guerin appears to be aware of that. Seravalli states Guerin is now finally willing to talk about a medium term contract, 3 to 5 years, rather than 7 or 8 years. Kaprizov wants shorter term as he and his agent believe he can walk into an even bigger payday when the salary cap increases.

Meanwhile, Seravalli says Kaprizov's camp states there's been no official offer made since April, although that's probably going to change soon. The two sides are still talking, which is a positive sign.

Kaprizov was drafted in 2015 but decided to spend four more seasons in the KHL before coming to the NHL in 2020-21. In 55 games, the 24-year-old rookie scored 27 goals and totaled 51 points. Not bad at all for his first year in a new league. It seems the Wild are going to have to give in somewhat or risk losing an offensive player.
