Former Montreal Canadiens forward Rem Pitlick has signed with a new team as he attempts to salvage his NHL career.

Rem Pitlick has not played in the NHL at all this season.

After just nine games with the Chicago Blackhawks last year, many thought that his NHL career was over.

After 132 career regular-season games and 54 points, it seemed like he had nowhere left to turn.

However, it appears as though that has changed. Yesterday, the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks AHL affiliate, announced that they have signed Pitlick to a contract for the remainder of the season.

Pitlick, 27, was a 3rd round draft pick of the Nashville Predators back in 2016.

He set career highs across the board during the 2021-22 season when he scored 15 goals and 37 points in 66 games split between the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens.

He seemed to find his groove in Montreal where he scored 9 goals and 26 points in 46 games, playing over 17 minutes a night for the club.

He even served as the first-line centre for the club for a brief period.

Unfortunately that success did not last and he has only appeared in 55 NHL contests since then.

Apparently, Pitlick had previously received several offers from professional leagues in Europe, but he remains committed to making a comeback to the NHL.

This is why he chose to sign with the Barracuda. After all, the Sharks are deep in a rebuild so Pitlick ought to have the opportunity to earn an NHL deal if he lights up the AHL for the remainder of the season.

If he can't crack the lineup for the 32nd-place San Jose Sharks, then it is safe to say that he will not crack an NHL lineup again for the rest of his career, wherever it might take him.
