Toronto Maple Leafs Make Goalie Roster Move After Humiliating Night From Dennis Hildeby

Dennis Hildeby completely embarrassed himself last night with his performance against the Blue Jackets, so the Leafs made a move today to address that.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are making a minor goaltending change in advance of Saturday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

The club called up veteran netminder Matt Murray while sending Dennis Hildeby back to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.

This will mark Murray's first NHL game in nearly a month. The 30-year-old's injury-riddled season saw him not take the ice for the Maple Leafs since April 2, 2023, before surfacing late in 2024.

His first NHL start in 628 days saw him turn aside 24 of 27 shots in a victory over the Sabres, but his second start did not go nearly as smoothly as he recorded a .871 save percentage in a defeat against the Capitals.

Murray has been phenomenal this season in the AHL, compiling an 8-4-3 record with an outstanding .934 save percentage, 1.68 goals-against average, and three shutouts in 15 games.

Consistency has just simply not been there at the NHL level thanks to injury, even though he has dominated in the minors.

Hildeby, on the other hand, goes back to the Marlies after the past month serving as Joseph Woll's backup. The 22-year-old appeared in three contests, recording a 1-2-0 record with a .868 save percentage.

With the Marlies this year, though, he's been considerably better, with a .916 save percentage in eight games this season.

The moves give Murray another chance at the NHL level, while also allowing Hildeby to continue to develop his game in a comfortable position with the Marlies.
