Auston Matthews has dealt with injury issues all season long, and now he'll miss more time after questions have recently emerged over his health.

Earlier this season, Auston Matthews missed plenty of time with an injury, and while he's been back for a few weeks now, the prevailing opinion is that he's yet to get back to 100%.

Now, that has officially been confirmed by TSN's Chris Johnston, who reveals that Matthews is now day-to-day after reaggravating the injury that caused him to miss time in November.

It's more likely than not that the team are simply giving Matthews the night off so he can rest until after the holiday break, and given how well they played even in his absence, it's a good idea to try give him this time off to get back to 100%.

It's unclear at this point if there's fear of a long-term absence once again, but according to Johnston, he's questionable for Monday's game, confirming that the team are yet to rule him out.

Despite the injury issues, Matthews has compiled 11 goals and 23 points through 24 games, with a -2 differential despite the team playing well with him on the ice, but now questions will be asked about how to handle him.

With a cap hit over $13 million, many Maple Leafs fans are looking at the idea of a stint on LTIR to clear out plenty of salary cap space, but for now, it doesn't appear as though anything is serious enough to consider that possibility.

With Matthews set to be sidelined, the team will likely go back to Max Domi as the 1C alongside Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner, but given how Marner and William Nylander have played this season, they remain optimistic that they can survive any time without their captain.
