Matt Rempe May Face Suspension for Disgusting Hit on Dallas Superstar Miro Heiskanen

Just as he returns to the New York Rangers lineup, Matthew Rempe may face a suspension for a brutal hit against Dallas Stars' Miro Heiskanen.

The New York Rangers, now 32 games deep into the season, have dug themselves into a hole they may not be able to climb out of by playoffs. While GM Chris Drury has caught much of the ire of Rangers fans, veteran forward Vincent Trocheck spoke on behalf of players in the emergency meeting, stating they share the responsibility to perform well.

Following Trocheck's statement and trading Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken, Drury decided to pull back one player from their AHL affiliate the Hartford Wolf Pack that had made a name for themselves last season in New York: Matt Rempe.

The towering player spoke with the media before his return, sharing how he valued his development and readiness to play hard against any opposing team.

However, just after making his big return, Rempe made a big mistake against the Dallas Stars that could cost him major ice time.

During their recent matchup, star Dallas defenseman Miro Heiskanen attempted to shift control of the puck when Rempe slammed him into the wall, leading with his elbow into the back of Heiskanen's neck

Though Miro Heiskanen is no small man at 6'2" and nearly 200 pounds, Matt Rempe is more than six inches and 50 pounds larger.

Understandably, this brutal boarding left Dallas's Number Four on the ice for a few seconds before returning to his feet.

As a result of this brutal hit, Rempe earned the fourth ejection of his 22-game-long NHL career and could face a suspension upon review by the Department of Player Safety.

Despite this rough mark against New York, the Rangers successfully took down the Dallas Stars 3-1.

Whether or not this increased nastiness will lead to more success than reprimands remains to be seen.
