The Vancouver Canucks have been without J.T. Miller for a few weeks, and now their President has had to shut down the rampant trade speculation around him after rumours emerged that he could be on the move.

A few weeks ago, the Vancouver Canucks announced that star forward J.T. Miller was taking a leave of absence from the team, as they reported that it was a mental reset for the veteran.

Since that point however, several media outlets have been running with speculation that a rift between Miller and Head Coach Rick Tocchet could force the team to make a trade, with Spittin' Chiclets and the Cam&Strick podcast both throwing out wild speculation.

Now, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has had to set the record straight, and he did so in a clear, succinct manner when talking to reporter Patrick Johnston.

«No, we are not (trading him),» Rutherford told Postmedia. «We stand by him.»

Going on the attack, Rutherford also commented on the recent speculation, calling on these people to go back to making up other trade rumours and to end the speculation around Miller.

«Don't start making stuff up on someone in his situation. That's disrespectful,» Rutherford said. «People that do this for fun, or for a living, just go back to making up trade rumours.»

While people in front office's can often make comments that are simply to dim speculation even if they are trying to move a player, this felt genuine from Rutherford, who is clearly frustrated with the talk around Miller, who is simply looking to get his mind right.

We've heard little about a potential return of Miller in the near future, but after being named to Team USA's Four Nations Face Off roster, it's expected that he'll at least be back sometime before February.
