Terrifying Scene for Carolina Hurricanes Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov as He Blacks Out on the Ice
A terrifying scene occurred last night when the Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov blacked out on the ice after a dangerous collision with his teammate.
Last night, the Carolina Hurricanes faced the Columbus Blue Jackets with the opportunity to tie the New Jersey Devils at the Metropolitan Division's first spot with 30 points.
Unfortunately for Canes fans, the team lost 5-4 in shootouts, after a terrible accident forced the goalie Pyotr Kochetkov to leave the game.
During the overtime period, Kochetkov was hit on the head by his teammate Sean Walker. The collision was accidental, but the results remained: Kochetkov fell on the ice and blacked out.

After Kochetkov left the game, backup goalie Spencer Martin came in for the shootouts, but couldn't stop the Blue Jackets.

The Canes are now in a tough spot. With Frederik Andersen sidelined long-term after undergoing knee surgery on Friday, Carolina could be forced to rely upon Spencer Martin and Dustin Tokarski while Andersen and Kochetkov recover.
This season, Martin took part in five games for the Hurricanes. The Colorado Avalanche's 2013 63rd overall pick holds a .870 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average with a 1-2-1 record.
As for Tokarski, he has a .963 SV% and a 1.01 GAA in three games with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL.
While we wait for an official update from the Carolina Hurricanes organization, fans are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping Kochetkov's injury isn't as serious as it appears.
Rod Brind'Amour's team will be back on the ice tomorrow against the Dallas Stars.
