Despite how tragic Johnny Gaudreau's passing has been, Frank Seravalli decided to use it in disrespectful terms during his latest article, and now he's addressed it.

This past summer was one full of tragedy and heartbreak for the NHL, with the passing of Johnny Gaudreau coming as a shock to everyone in the sporting world. Given how universally respected and adored Johnny Hockey was by his peers and the fans, it's no surprise how everyone has honoured him so perfectly in the months since his tragic passing, but unfortunately not everyone got the message.

On Monday, top NHL Insider Frank Seravalli posted a new article with predictions for the upcoming season, but disgustingly used Gaudreau's passing as a way to predict that the Blue Jackets would land the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft.

Unsurprisingly, he faced immense backlash on social media after the post, with fans not only calling out the original comments, but the many amendments he made to it as well.

Now, the Daily Faceoff reporter has addressed the situation on his social media, offering an apology for what happened.

Earlier today, in an annual season predictions column, I picked the Columbus Blue Jackets to win the Draft Lottery and included commentary about Johnny Gaudreau looking down on them from heaven for good luck.

What I wrote and how my poor choice of words was received was not intended to create any hurt or anger. Especially as a member of the Philly hockey community, I've been absolutely gutted by John and Matty's passing - like so many around the hockey world. This tragedy is a difficult topic we're all grappling with and what I wrote was never intended to add to that. Simply put, I should not have tied the two together. I am sorry and I promise to be better.

Despite this apology, the veteran reporter tried to amend his article not once, but twice to justify using Gaudreau's name to further his point, and it's safe to say that fans weren't having it.

Ultimately, there's unlikely to be any consequences for Seravalli, but hopefully he has learned from this after some controversies in the past too, because this certainly shouldn't have even been a topic in the first place if he chose to respect the Gaudreau's.
